Diversity of Identities and Acceptance of All Minds

DIAM (Diversity of Identity and Acceptance of All Minds) is a volunteer-based group that offers opportunities for networking and social supports within the LGBT community.  Our aim is to connect with individuals of any age group who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgendered, queer, or questioning

We are aware that an individual is not primarily identified on any one facet but on a multi-faceted dimension.  We believe that oppression begins when we isolate an individual based on their religion, class, gender or ethnic identity.  An act of oppression in one context is similar in its effects to an act of oppression in another context.  Hence, to advocate for one group who face oppression isolates groups with similar experiences. We are aware that sexual orientation is intertwined with other identities (i.e. religious, cultural, class, gender, and ethnic) and advocate for the belief that any acceptance of any one individual must involve the appreciation of all facets of their being.

Mandate:
•    To increase the recognition and acceptance of individuals’ identities within the LGBT community who identify strongly with their religious, gender, class, ethnic or cultural background.
•    To increase the awareness and educate the public on the issues that LGBT individuals face (i.e. religious, cultural, class, gender and ethnic).

Aim:

Seeking members who identify themselves as members of the Edmonton LGBT community and who share similar perspectives with the group.
